The creation of our bio-packaging is based on a ground-breaking solution of Russian scientists. Composite material glues cornstarch or another biomaterial (shell of sunflower seeds, rice, or buckwheat waste). In compost, our pack biodegrades and transforms into water (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2) and humus as bacteria waste products. This is a very nature-friendly way. This is an absolute innovation because other vendors use plastic to glue biomaterial, and when it molds in compost, it falls into microplastics that harms the ecology and living organisms way more deeply. The solution of Russian scientists allowed for the creation of a unique composite material which is a matrix of modified polypropylene where cornstarch seeds are dispersed in size 10-15 micron. Our packaging biodeterioration summary: Biodegradation of starch-filled composites in compost and in moist soil occurs according to the following mechanism: water leaks in the material through micropores and porous starch grains, dissolves the components contained in it (low molecular starch fractions, etc.), causes swelling of the outer and inner starch grains that leads to the formation of additional microcracks and cavities on the surface of the material and frees access to the inside of the polymer matrix; dispersed in the polymer matrix starch swells and puts pressure on the matrix. The specific surface area of the material increases followed by the adsorption of microorganisms on the surface and in the depth of the polymer material. he growth of colonies of microorganisms (bacteria and fungi) begins. The next stage of biodegradation is associated with the action of enzymatic hydrolysis and metabolic products of microorganisms, which attack polymer lamellas and polypropylene spherulites, starting from the amorphous part of the supramolecular structure. As a result, the composite material is completely destroyed in 10-12-18 months, depending on the composition and composting conditions. Based on the breakthrough of Russian scientists our company created a line of biodegradable materials with cornstarch, shell of sunflower seeds, buckwheat, and rice waste. We use these materials to produce food packaging which biodegrades completely in compost. The packaging withstands high and low temperatures, suitable for heating in a microwave oven, has high barrier properties and doesn’t harm the environment.
